Reminders

March is the month we rush in spring and daylight saving time begins.  Around the house it’s referred to as Spring-cleaning time.  So here are some reminders about trash collection.

Yard Waste pickup will resume on Monday, March 29.  A reminder of the yard waste guidelines follows:  Yard waste will be picked up at the curb.  It includes grass, leaves, plants, tree trimmings and brush.  Loose yard waste must be bagged in a standard 30-gallon paper bag or placed in a designated 32 gallon or smaller yard waste cans.  Do not use plastic bags or cardboard boxes!  Tree limbs, branches and brush less than six (6”) inches in diameter are to be tied with twin (no wire) in bundles no bigger than four (4’) feet long by twenty-four (24”) inches in diameter.  No bundle is to weigh more than sixty (60) pounds.

Recyclables include paper products (newspapers, magazines, etc.), plastic, glass, aluminum and tin cans.  Recyclable items shall be placed all together in a recycling bin provided by the trash hauler at the curb.

It is permissible to place yard waste and recyclables at the curb the night before pickup but no earlier than 5:00 p.m. Sunday.  All the following items are to ready for collection before 7:00 a.m. on the designated collection date.

Solid Waste (Trash) does not need to be placed at the curb, it will be collected at the rear or side door of your residence.

Household and Bulky Waste includes any item except major appliances generated from normal household operations.  Bulky waste includes furniture, small appliances, rugs, etc.  Excludes tires, major construction debris, automobile parts, and white goods (see paragraph below).  This waste will be picked up at your back door provided it is in plastic bags.  Larger items such as furniture will need to be placed at the curb.  If you have questions, call City Hall.

White Goods include hot water heaters, washers, dryers, stoves, refrigerators and other major appliances.  To have any of items picked up, call Meridian at 314-291-3131 one week in advance.  There is no additional charge for this service.
